L’etoile Café

L’etoile means ‘the star’ in French and aptly enough, this new café is the rising star of Farrer Park.

Located at the quiet Owen Road, L’etoile is only a few months old but has already garnered rave reviews and sightings of local celebrities like Edmund Chen and Pierre Png. It is not difficult to see why – the two-storey shophouse provides a perfect environment to chill out and escape from the daily hustle and bustle, thanks to its off-the-beaten-track location and eclectic interior decor.

The second storey, often used for private functions and workshops, is especially mesmerizing – there are hand-painted bird cages on the walls, upholstered chairs, lace curtains which allow the evening rays to seep through so beautifully, and vintage wares like a sewing machine doubling up as a table.

With the necessary credentials, the nosh at L’etoile does not disappoint as well. Influenced by Japanese and French food, pastries like macha cupcakes are prepared by a Cordon Bleu patissier, crepes done by a French friend, and coffee brewed by their barista who trained at Highlander Coffee.

Sadly the plasticky waffle we tried was quite a letdown, but the ice cream which adorned it proved to be the saving grace. L’etoile also serves some reputable Eggs Benedict, part of the brunch menu available only on weekends and most public holidays.

That’s not all the café has to offer you. Besides the comfort food and inviting atmosphere, a small selection of books is available for your reading pleasure. Several knick-knacks are also for sale, including handmade accessories and even children clothes.

At L’etoile, it seems like there is something for everyone!
